You're the color on my leaves ❤
Akie didn’t know what to do with himself. He actually got stood up. Not an entirely uncommon occurrence; not because his dates disliked him but he tended to get his locations or times incorrect. So he was left standing outside of the university with a small bag of chocolates dangling from one hand, dressed like some sort of hipster ready for summer to end. Wearing a jacket in this heat just seemed unbearable and yet he suffered through it.
This time he had been sure he had it correct, he even took the time to write the exact situation (Name, Date, Location) on his wrist when the offer had been proposed. So he had legitimately been stood up by a rather attractive young lady, some musical major or something, and was left with the anxious feeling where one doesn’t know what new plans to make. He was still twitchy in general because his time was just around the corner. Summer was coming to a close, students were flooding the halls.
Checking again to make sure that, yes, in fact an hour had passed, he finally pushed his way inside the main doors. At the very least he could peek in to see what the early bird students were doing.
Older art prints from the previous year and the summer classes were pinned up all over the walls while some students were messing with the glass cases to set up sculptures. A few were putting up older instruments to show off what their respective classes specialized in.
He couldn’t help but linger around some of the photography, pictures that were obviously taken nearly a year ago because the familiar red, orange, yellows of his work. Was it narcissistic to appreciate one's own abilities? Probably.

JESUS DONT WANT ME ---for a sunbeam it had been a relatively quiet day in the library. there wasn't much work to be done, so most of her time was spent reading. although, most of her time was spent reading. more often than not you would find her in the library hours after everyone had left, too wrapped up in a good book to notice.
colorful eyes lazily glanced over at her desk, where a note had been left to remind her to deliver a certain set of books to a classroom at a certain time. a gasp escaped parted lips as she quickly put her book down and scurried off to collect the books she needed. thankfully that was the easy part.
there was book upon book, stacked ever so carefully on top of one another. noël tried her hardest to look around the books to avoid any obstacles or bodies, but it was insanely uncomfortable and too much of a hassle. the building seemed relatively empty anyways. all she could do was beat herself up over how much easier it would have been to have taken a cart, but she figured she didn't have the time.
every now and again her horns rubbed against the stack of books, tempting them to collapse to the floor. so close, so close. noël thought to herself as she quickened her pace. then there was a smack, and books clattered to the floor, she along with them. it wasn't until her rump smashed onto the hard tile floor that she had realized what she had done.
doe eyes looked up through thick lashes at the person she had unknowingly rammed into. "oh my gosh, i am so sorry. i'm such a klutz. i knew i shouldn't have tried to carry all those." words just poured from her mouth like vomit. "are you okay?" suddenly, she had forgotten about where she was trying to go and the task that was at hand. all she could think about was royally fucking up.

Getting knocked into was not in his original plans, but at least it was going waste a few minutes of this long summer day. Less summer time meant one step closer… Though hitting his back on a wall and being showered in books was a rather painful delay. “Oh, I’m fine.” He stared at her trying to pick up why she felt so familiar before shaking it off. Still it was unusual for a spirit to be wandering around the school exposed like that. “Are you attending the school?” Some of the human spirits still lingered around, but with her horns she obviously wasn’t one of the deceased.
Akie reached down to pick up one of the books, glancing at the titles. “Did you need help carrying these?” Wait, should he even be offering? He wanted to explore the school before deciding on anything, but the words came without thought. Well, now that the offer was in the air, he started picking up a few books before offering her his hand to pull her up.
And yet the entire time he felt like he should recognize her from something. Maybe she had been in a school event? But he would recognize those horns… unless they didn’t have them out during the previous event. Damn, this was going to bother him. Maybe he just saw a picture of her on the walls and the deja vu was strong today.
(pretty sure all intro threads end up terrible! it's fine!)

JESUS DONT WANT ME ---for a sunbeam she had to admit that his words caused a wave of relief to wash over her. as doe eyes took in his features, she had a butterfly feeling in her gut. this feeling of somehow knowing who this person was nibbled away at her mind. these thoughts were of course pushed away as she registered his question. "oh, uh no. i'm not. i'm actually the librarian." how could he not have known that? noël had assumed he was a student here as well, or why else would he be roaming the hallways?
"are you?" she asked curiously, a small, fragile hand tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear as she spoke. wide eyes watched as the young man picked up a book, his eyes lazily glancing over the title. it wasn't anything too exciting. before she got to answer his question, his hands were picking up books, and before long, a hand was extended to help her up off the floor. she took it with a gentle smile, helping herself up to her feet. "that would be really kind of you. wouldn't want a repeat of what just happened." a nervous giggle fluttered from her vocals.
as she picked up the remainder of the books from the tile floors, large eyes glanced over in his direction once more. there came that feeling of knowing him once more. everything about him seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. it's like everything about him was dancing right on the tip of her tongue, teasing her, but not allowing her to say or even remember anything about him. noël continued to try to figure out the puzzle in her mind as she slowly made her way down the hallway, in hopes that he would follow.
why don't you just ask him, dummy! her thoughts scolded. the old spirit looked over her shoulder at him, feeling the courage rise up in her. "i feel like i know you from somewhere, but i just can't put my finger on it." the words sounded fairly confident, and for a moment, noël hadn't even noticed the words had actually been spit out into the air. her pale cheeks turned red from embarrassment. "sorry, that probably sounds a little strange." this time her tone wasn't as confident, as she turned her head away from the young man and back towards the empty hallway.
she couldn't help but feel like he had the same feeling, too.

“Hmm? No I’m not a student.” He didn’t bother explaining what he was, only tacking on, “I just like looking at the displays.” It was no good to try and tell her he was faculty as well, or even a student. She’d eventually ask after him and no one else would know who the hell he was. But he did give her a giant grin while hefting the books a little further up his chest. Little bag of chocolates sitting precariously at the top.
Akie patiently waited until she started walking ahead, having no clue where she was planning on going. Once the direction was chosen, he made sure to sidle right back up to her, keeping an equal speed.
So she was feeling the odd deja vu too? Well that was interesting. “You know, I was getting the strangest feeling I recognized you too. But I have a rather faulty memory.” Which is why he had brushed it off before. “What, um, kind of spirit are you? Perhaps we’ve met outside.”
He didn’t actually know too many of the spirits by name. There was that hulking guardian he’d seen a few times in the forest while he was changing the trees, a few crows and ravens. His earring tinkled quietly as he shuddered slightly. There was this weird urge to avoid this girl, though he didn’t know why. She was quite pretty, certainly worthy of his attentions. What couldn’t he remember?

JESUS DONT WANT ME ---for a sunbeam a warm smile graced her lips. "i can't blame you. there are some pretty talented people here." it still felt weird to her that he was just wandering around the school admiring all the work. it wasn't her place to question him, but she knew she would keep an eye out for him on campus to try and note any suspicious behavior. she didn't need any troublemakers wandering around her campus.
the two wandered down the hallway side-by-side. noël would lead them either left or right, trying to get to the classroom before it was too late. she hadn't even bothered to check the time, but she had a feeling that she would have some ass kissing to do when she got there. to be honest, she was surprised no one had come looking for her. it was completely unlike her to be late to anything. more often than not she was actually early.
words tumbled into her ears. so she was right about him feeling the same way as her. noël couldn't help but feel somewhat proud that she had guessed it. then he asked what kind of spirit she was, and for a moment she wondered how on earth he had guessed. surprisingly it wasn't all that hard to forget about the giant horns the protruded from the sides of her head. the old spirit wondered if it was a good idea to tell him who she really was.
"oh, um...i'm a sheep spirit. obviously, since the horns and all." noël started hesitantly. suddenly a sick feeling tugged at the pit of her stomach. "not that it's a big deal or anything but," the words suddenly stopped, building up suspense. why was she so afraid? what was he going to do? "i'm also the spirit of winter." the words came out like a jumbled mess, and part of her hoped that he didn't understand a single word she had said.
worst possible outcome is that she would wind up carrying these books all by herself again, which really wouldn't bother her. but she had to admit, she didn't mind the company, either.
