Playable Races | By 'races' we mean that you can choose to be a human or a spirit. Now, spirits are tricky things to pin down, but I'll let you know the different classes and the different forms that we allow our spirits to take up.
Spirits are basically souls of things. You could play the spirit of a deceased human, for example. You could be a nature spirit, which is basically the spirit of anything biotic (living) and found in nature, like trees, fire, wind, you name it. Animal spirits are also playable, though these are animal spirits and not nature spirits. Animal spirits are derived from one type of animal and one type of animal only. Spirits can be young or old, it all depends on how you want them to come about and the history you'd like your particular spirit to have. It's totally okay to take ideas from folklore, but please add your own original flare.
Here at Seaside, spirits have three different forms; human, semi-human, and natural.
The human form is just like it says; the spirit takes up an appearance to look like a human, to blend in. Keep in mind that these spirits might not always be up to date on the latest fashion trends, and that's totally okay. It's totally possible for them to adorn themselves in things that remind them of who they truly are, for their hair colors to reflect their true being, etc. Their abilities in this form are limited, though they can still do minor things. A fox spirit would have enhanced senses, a fire spirit could light a small fire. Nothing drastic.
The semi-human form is where the spirit retains part of it's humanoid form and part of its natural form. For example, a horse spirit might look like a centaur. It would be able to utilize its strong horsey legs to run faster. In this form, spirits are able to tap into more of their innate abilities.
The natural form is where the spirit is who they truly are, looking like their true selves. When the spirit is derived from a human, they're usually see-through and look like the human they once were. When the spirit is a nature spirit, they'll usually be a tree-person or some fire being. Animal spirits probably have the most going for them here, as they're able to turn into animals and aren't incredibly noticeable. When a spirit is in this form, they can use the most of their innate abilities.
When it comes to human spirits, most of these won't have cool powers like a nature spirit or an animal spirit. That being said, if you'd like them to have new abilities post death, go for it. Things like telekinesis and clairvoyance -- mental abilities -- are allowable.
