Sydney was really getting into those stories. They were fasincating. They had some pretty gruesome tales held in the pages of the book she was currently reading. She'd be scared if it wasn't for the fact she wasn't exactly living but she wanted to forget that was the case even if it was for the moment. Her eyes kept darting acrossed the pages at a fast rate. She had always been a fast reader. It wasn't like some huge feat or anything but it certainately helped so she didn't have to be in suspense whenever she read something good or even interesting.

Her eyes shone with exicitement as she kept turning every page. Loving every word she came acrossed in this book. Suddenly, she heard a loud rustle come from the bushes nearby and a loud groan come from them. She yelped loud dropping her flashlight. She bit her lip the impact made the stupid batteries come out. Now it was pitch black! She got on her hands and knees scrambling to tr and find the batteries to her flashlight and quick too. Before whatever the hell that was got to her first but to no avail she couldn't find them.

She stood up immeaditely clinging to her book, shaking a bit. Obviously forgetting she was a spirit for the moment like she wanted and gulped her eyes darting back and forth. She gripped her hardcover book in her arms and started walking carefully towards the noise. She gulped once more in suspense, her arms shaking a bit. Should she say something? No, that's the first mistake in a horror movie, but.. what if it was someone who hurt them selves? Or it really could be a masked murderer set out to kill her. Her thoughts were jumbled and mixed up.

Clearing her throat she said through a shaky voice, " H-h-ello? Is someone out there?" Who knows if she would come to regret that or not. Hopefully it was just someone else checking out this forest like she was and not some killer, or monster hiding in the darkness.

Sydney waited to hear a voice, just as she took a step forward she heard one. Thank god it wasn't some creep, or a monster! Well, at least it didn't seem like he was one yet. She felt a small ping which meant some sort of negative feeling or emotion. She blinked a few times, which she had to guess if he had hurt himself by falling, maybe it was frustration? Since she could only sense negative emotions in this form, but couldn't pinpoint exactly what they were like her other two forms. She softly nodded, letting out a sigh of relief. If she had a beating heart, man would it be beating really fast right now.

"I hope you're okay.. " She said in a worried tone as she set her heavy book down behind her near her bag. She went to look for her flashlight near the trunk she sat at. She managed to find it placing the batteries back in as she heard the young man speak again. She blinked clicking the flash light on aiming it at a tree near him as not to shine it directly in his eyes but enough to where she could see him in the dark. She listened as he asked what she was doing out here. Even calling her pretty, a bright red color appeared on her cheeks.

"Well.. I... I wanted to check this place out. And I was reading horror stories earlier, thought it was the perfect setting for that. " She said smiling in a friendly manner, " Oh and me pretty? Thanks but I really don't think so. " She remember how she died and flinched for a moment. Yeah, nothing was pretty about that at all. If this guys saw her natural form. She was sure he wouldn't thinks so after that, " I can handle myself. I might not look like it, but there's plenty of things I could do to scare even a creep away, I assure you! " she said in an almost playful tone.

She was slowly calming down and realized he must have felt bad for scaring her. She shook her hands in a defense manner, " No no! It's fine! It's to be expected. I mean it is kind of dark out here.. and it didn't help I was being a knucklehead reading horror stories in the middle of a creepy forest like this. " She chuckled. Even picked up on his mutter. She blinked, almost making a small frown on her lips but didn't. At least he could mingle normally with people. She didn't have that choice. Well, thinking it was her fault she was a spirit but still.

" Well... I'm not. I don't really know many people here. So I'm not from the area, I.. uhh recently moved here not too long ago. " She said, " I know this town really is bustling with all kinds of life, but sometimes it's better to get away from it. It's hard to think when there's a crowd of people around. " She shrugged her shoulders and smiled. Blinking as he spoke, and he stepped toward her. She got a better look at him. Just her luck, bumping into a good looking guy in the forest. And what's worse she's not even a human like him. Ah well. She looked back at him and smiled offering her hand, " Nice to meet you, Lance. I'm Sydney. "

Sydney couldn't help but smile. Genuinely she seemed pretty happy and calm right now. As soon as his hand touched her shoulder. If anyone tried to take the smile off of her face now, surely it wouldn't work, " There you see it now okay? Kinda hard not to smile. " She chuckled. He sure was a character wasn't he? She shook her head still smiling. Man, he was really cute up close. Of course she wouldn notice. She still had the heart of a young woman afterall. It's not like she had been dead for a long time. She still hadn't wised up beyond those years just yet. He shook her hand, feeling the warmness it kept the smile on her face.

She watched him move behind her, sittting on a log. Shrugging she followed him when he motioned for her to come join him. Sitting down next time, only a few inches away from him she looked at him directly with her golden brown eyes listening intently. Hearing him say to get to know each other, her face flushed with red as well, she couldn't help but giggle hearing him explain herself. She rolled her eyes in a very playful fashion and laughed a cute laugh, " Oh I bet you're not. Calling me pretty outright earlier wouldn't insinuate that at all. " She teased. This causing another giggle to escape her.

When that stubborn almost serious look hit his face, her own facial expression changed into an intense focused one as she listened to what he had to say. She understood he needed someone to speak too. She even did. It did get lonely, when your a young lady who recently became deceased trying to hide the fact your a spirit from people. It gets pretty lonely, when you're afraid to get close to others in fear of them finding out about your past. That's just how she was. A pretty face, but a whole lot of scars underneath it all, " I get it. I really do. Well, you can talk to me. I know I could definitely use the company too. " She smiled in a whole-hearted fashion.

Even the whole time she was still smiling, until he brought up the whole pretty thing. It still was a half smile. Sure it made her blush, but it only reminded of the horrible thing she did to herself. She looked away for a moment trying to think of what she could possibly say to him. Looking back at him, there seemed to be a glint of sadness in her eyes, " I do apperciate the compliment but.... " She trailed off biting her lip trying to think of exactly how to word it. Sighing she said, " The way I look right now... of course I'm pretty. But if you saw what really was me. I don't think you'd still say that..." She didn't know why, but he seemed nice enough, she didn't understand why she was slowly opening up to him, she continued, " Things have been really rough for me as of late. I'm not exactly a good person. Good people don't hurt themselves. " She went silent and closed her eyes for a moment before looking back at him.

But she couldn't deny that grin of his was darn cute though. She lightly placed her hand on his for a moment, almost to reassure the guy she barely met, that she was okay. She didn't want to throw her issues or her problems at someone she barely met. But after her death and coming here, it was hard. It was hard to cope with all on her own, "I know you're probably wondering what I mean by my last statement. Well... when I get to know you more. I'll tell you. But right now... I don't want to ruin any first impressions with you."

Sydney stared at him. Even seeing that smile on his face.. it was hard so hard not to crack a full smile. She kept trying and trying. Than she did. She smiled. She oculdnt understand it. It was like his mood was contagious to her or something. She listened as he asked her to promise to tell him one day. She blinked and bit her lip. Man, now this seemed to be an interesting position to put herself in. She shook her head sighing as he placed a hand on her shoulder, " Okay I promise to tell you one day. Or better yet show you one day. " she said. For some reason she just couldn't quite understand why but there was a fluttering of emotions inside her she hadnt felt before. She was kind of nervous but at the same time.. giddy? She didn't know. It was hard trying to figure herself out.

She had even realized she had placed her hand on his and retracted it, her face turning bright red. Wait.. why was she embarassed by that? Ugh, this emotions. She listened quite intently as he spoke again. It interested in her. Her face became pale when he had mentioned spirits. Oh boy. She bit her lip again. This was sure interesting. If he knew he was talking to a spirit.. would that change him wanting to get to know her? Wait.. again with the complex feelings, she didn't quite understand it.

She spoke up, " Yeah. I can tell you for a fact... spirits here are real. It's no rumor or a joke. Never believed in them myself until a month before I came here. They are all around... And we can.. I mean they can blend in well to normal life so well. It's hard to tell who is and isn't a spirit anymore. " She mentally slapped herself. How could she even hint that she was a spirit? Of course a stupid slip of the tongue would do it.

As soon as he asked about scary stories, she immediately nodded and said, " Well.. there interesting. I don't really have much if anything at all to be afraid of. So to me it's interesting to think about. Besides scary stories are the bestly written books in my opinion. " she smiled and rubbed the back of her neck nervously. Hoping he would forget about her little slip of the tongue not even just a moment ago.

Sydney's eyes widened. Oh no! He noticed her mistake of "we" when she was talking baout spirits. She was freaking out in her mind. Words jumbled all around in her brain. She looked at him as he asked. They were close, her face was mere centimeters from his. Her cheeks bright red. She groaned and looked away for a second. What could she say? She felt bad. If they were gonna be friends, she should tell him. And that pitter patter of her emotions, felt like there was something more than that going on here. She took a deep breath, " Okay... no it wasn't a slip of the tongue. I would be lying if I said I wasn't spirit.. I am. I used to be just like you, Lance though. That's the difference between me and a lot of other spirits. " She said, her voice was trembling.

What would he think of her now? She explained it thus far.. and so far even though she was scared out of her mind. It was sort a nice feeling to even get this pent up emotion out, " I.. I was a human once. About a month ago, I did something terrible to myself... I wounded up this way. I regret it... basically I... " her golden orbs filled up with tears, " I did the most horrible thing.. I took my own life when I shouldn't have. Things got to tough.. that I just... " She bit her lip and blinked for a moment, it was scary to say all of this but as her words flowed out, she was slowly feeling better by not keeping these things cooped up. Even the tears building up in her eyes faded out.

There was something about this guy... something about him that she felt like she could trust him. That he really wouldn't hurt her or hinder her in anyway. That in itself really helped calm her down. Her face turned bright red. If she could feel a normal human heartbeat, boy would her heart be ready to beat right out of her chest, " I... sure you can hold my hand. I'd... like that very much. " She ended up stuttering a bit. This guy looking into her eyes, man it made her nervous. But the kind of nervous that she liked? Was this really turning into something more? She bit her lip. Hopefully he wouldn't think any different about finding out about her. She moved her hands to his and even managed to smile a genuine sweet smile. She had to have faith he wouldn't just run away from her after and explanation like that.
