All was silent in the mansion, save for the fluttering wings of a golden butterfly. Kiyoshi had risen well before the majority of her guests, taking her early morning tours around the building as she often did. Passing through the walls from one room to the next, she thought back to the very spots where guests had once mingled in the past. It wasn't often that her Master had hosted events, and she cherished every single one that he did. Thankful that her memories of these halls and their pasts was something that didn't fade away, she cherished those pleasant times and often looked back with bittersweet nostalgia. Sadly, exactly how long ago since everything had changed was something lost to that very abyss. Even memories of her own age fell victim to the ticking hands of the clock, but it must have been many many winters since then. Still, Kiyoshi accepted the chapters in her life as it is. She came into this world when the mansion was constructed, and she'll leave when its gone. [break][break]
Floating pass the pantry, she figured it was about time to stock up on her supply of foodstuff. The system that she had put in place seemed to be working pretty satisfactorily, and it gave her a reason to cook up a variety of dishes. How it worked was that outside of each guest's rooms, there's a notepad and pen placed on a stool. If her guests had any comments or concerns, that would be where they would voice them out. It would also be where they would write down what they would wish to eat for any of their three meals during the next day, be that simple friend rice or steak. Her dishes aren't free, of course, but she makes it a point that they'll always be charged a pretty fair price. [break][break]
While Kiyoshi was making her way to check on just that, she caught sight of a certain black haired individual stepping out of her room. That particular spirit had been the root cause of numerous mischiefs in the past, all which had required time to clean up after. Still, Kiyoshi had grown fond of that girl over the years. The cat-spirit had never done anything too drastic or ill-intended, and had brought her own fair share of amusement. The two of them had a mutual understanding of sorts, though their exact relationship with each other is a little too ambiguous to pinpoint.[break][break]
Reverting back to her human form, she smiled and greeted her good morning. “You know, you're one of the few I'll miss if you ever leave this place.” said Kiyoshi, betraying a hint of familiar warmth through the look in her eyes. “I hope you had a pleasant rest, Miss Agatha. I'm heading down to town later, and I was wondering if there would be anything you fancy for dinner or otherwise?” [break][break]

you make my world spin, placebo feelings [attr="class","temppost"] [attr="class","tempicon"] A silky black ear was the first thing to emerge from the sea of blankets, gently moving to best pick up on the activity in the mansion. The head of the cat slowly emerged after the ear, green eyes looking around the room, filled to the brim with curiosity. Agatha found herself wondering what time it was as she slowly drew her paws from beneath the blankets, gingerly testing each one before she jumped from the bed. Her feet landed with a soft pat, only to turn into something that was much more human. The spirit looked around for her clothing and quickly found a freshly washed dress - her freshly washed dress - and slipped it on without much hesitation. It was a little too chilly to be running around in the nude.
As the cat spirit stepped into the hall, she was greeted by a familiar face. She may have offered a slight smile had she been a friendlier person, but she opted to keep her face devoid of emotion. She listened patiently to the other spirit as she spoke, taking in the words with great patience. She was slow in her response, but it was mostly because she didn't really feel like speaking. It was way too early in the morning for this kind of sentiment, or at least, it was for Agatha. Then again, there was never a good time to go spouting off about something that was mushy-gushy and filled to the brim with feels when in the presence of the cat spirit. Kiyoshi was one of the few beings that walked the earth who the spirit had even a twinge of respect for, and that was primarily only because the keeper of the mansion was a real sport who let her stay in the house for very little in return. Had it not been for that fact, Agatha probably would have been more crotchety than she already was. There was no toning it down with the cat, as she preferred to go all out at all times. There was no use in biting back her sass, as it was the sass that made her great.
"Thats real cute," the cat threw in a dramatic eye roll as the icing on the sarcastic statement cake, hiding the fact that she was perhaps a little touch. That being said, she wasn't about to let Kiyoshi onto the fact that she cared. Though Agatha knew full well the keeper of the mansion wasn't a fool, she was simply too stubborn for her own good. As she'd just decided to get out of bed, the cat stretched her arms above her head, unleashing a mighty yawn. "I slept well enough, though I swear to you there is a draft." The cat spirit was a lover of the sunshine and a warm window sill, so it was probably to be expected that she complained about all different kinds of coolness. That being said, there were plenty of good places to curl up and sleep, so she had no reason to complain. Being inside a room, no matter how 'drafty' it was, was better than being out on the street.
"As far as food goes, I would appreciate some fish," the lack of emotion the expression on the spirit's face held made it uncertain whether she would actually appreciate the fish or not, but as the two spirits had known each other for a while Agatha felt she could assume that Kiyoshi would realize she was telling the truth. "I've been craving fish lately, though I'm not quite sure what type of fish I would prefer." The raven-haired creature suddenly took great interest in her fingernails, picking around her cuticles with great interest.
"Do you know what type is in season now?" Agatha may not have known what type of fish she would have preferred, but she knew that she liked them to be fresh regardless of their species. "Actually, do you have the ingredients for a chocolate cake? I'm kind of feeling a little sweet."

Holding back a chuckle, Kiyoshi took the comments in full stride. She had expected no less from this fiendish little cat-girl. Many of their exchanges had played out similarly in the past, and she reacted to them as she did to this – with an unwavering smile. She thought that Agatha's reactions were becoming more predictable with each passing day, though that was one comment the maid wisely chose to keep to herself. [break][break]
“Would you like me to check it out later? It'll be awful if it were to cause you a cold.” asked Kiyoshi, regarding the draft. She knew full well that Agatha might have just been clutching at straws for an excuse to complain, but it wouldn't hurt to play along. “I'm pleased to hear that you had a good night's rest. I wish I could say the same for myself, but sadly that wasn't the case.” Cutting her sentence off there, that was just about as muc has she was willing to share. While the growing frequency of sleepless nights were a concern, it wouldn't be right for her to complain to others. Even to Agatha, Kiyoshi still kept her problems locked away.[break][break]
Glancing out the glass window by their side, she watched as the sun peaked above the horizon of far-away forests. A flock of birds flew in the distance, and serene clouds loomed overhead. Her gaze followed the trail of green, returning to a sight much closer to home. A sight that made Kiyoshi betray just a hint of sadness in her eyes. With the busy schedule she has, finding time to mow the lawn basically required the sacrifice of another number of tasks in the day. As unfortunate as it was, it was something that needed to be dealt with. Letting the path to the front door be covered by lush growth was where she drew the line. The mere thought of it was unacceptable. [break][break]
Hearing the cat-girl's answer about what food she fancied, Kiyoshi's attention was brought back and she turned away from the window. Looking at her with a smile, she pushed down the soft sigh that yearned desperately for escape. If not for Agatha's presence, it would have been the start of an extremely upsetting morning. Not for the first time, she was thankful to have this meddling cat around. [break][break]
“Chocolate cake is a fine choice, I'll have it done by the end of this evening.” said Kiyoshi, closing her eyes and giving a slight bow of her head. “Forgive me for asking, but surely someone as fine as yourself will have the necessary funds to pay?” inquired the maid, choosing not to tack on the words 'unlike last time'. Surely the little incident that happened not too long ago was still fresh in Agatha's mind, as it was in hers. [break][break]

you make my world spin, placebo feelings [attr="class","temppost"] [attr="class","tempicon"] The smile that was constantly sitting upon Kiyoshi's undoubtedly ancient face was enough to make Agatha want to crawl back in bed and stay there for an eternity, but she figured she could stomach it if there were treats on the line. Food was a great motivator for the cat spirit and chocolate cake was perhaps the greatest motivator of them all. Agatha actually thought that the ignorant human women were onto something when she had overheard them chattering about how chocolate could fix everything. She knew the words applied to emotional issues and not those of the physical sort, so she figured a little chocolate might make her a little more... hospitable. Not that she really cared about who she irritated, of course.
Agatha merely waved her hand in a passive gesture when Kiyoshi offered to look into the draft. Truth be told, Agatha didn't care that much, and she really was just looking for a reason to complain. The weather was mild, not too hot nor too cold, but the cat much preferred the cooler weather. It was much easier to sleep when it was cool and snow was perhaps the most fascinating precipitation she had ever encountered. She really couldn't wait for winter, and if anything a chilly draft simply fueled this longing for the cold. Though the cat would have loved to just ignore the second half of the mansion's keeper's statement, she couldn't bring herself to. That being said, she was none to delicate about the matter. "Maybe you've just not found your optimal sleeping conditions." It probably wasn't the case, but Agatha didn't actually know what she should have said -- if anything.
Green eyes followed the older spirit's gaze as she looked out the window. Though it was beautiful, Agatha much preferred to be inside. Once she was in, it was harder for people to get her out. If she were to leave, there was always the possibility that she wouldn't be allowed back. When she went outside she caused nothing but mischief, anyway. She liked it that way, but most of the people in Seaside didn't. Luckily, this crop of freshman wouldn't know enough to look out for her. A devious smile crept across Agatha's face as she was quite pleased with the thought. It seemed she would have to get out sooner than she may have liked.
Good ol' Kiyoshi was always a real sport, being both good and bad for the cat girl. In response to being a 'fine lady', Agatha merely offered a snort. She really did find the notion to be hilarious -- there was nothing about the cat spirit that was fine or ladylike. As far as the funds went, she was genuinely surprised that Kiyoshi had kept asking about these things when she could have guessed the answer. Agatha hardly left, so there was little she could do for money, lest she took up some hobby and began knitting scarves and selling them to the peasants.
"I'm afraid I have empty pockets," it was quite clear that Agatha wasn't too sorry about the fact, but she did feel a little guilty doing such things to Kiyoshi. With that in mind, she figured the only thing she could do was pledge her services as some form of repayment. "I do live here, so I suppose I could earn it somehow." The lack of enthusiasm in the cat's voice made it quite clear that she would not work all that willingly, but she didn't think such tones of voice would do much to deter the other spirit from giving her a task to do.

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]“Optimal sleeping conditions? Perhaps that may be it.” said Kiyoshi, resting her back against the wall. It has been troubling, these last few days. Her normal habit of reading before sleeping was plagued by the lack of ability to concentrate, as well as a general feeling of restlessness. 'Perhaps some time off, if I could find a chance, would be a good idea. It's been ages since I took a break. And maybe a glass of wine before sleeping would help, too.' thought Kiyoshi, her mind wandering to the wine cellar's key in her pocket. Her Master had stocked up on a lot of bottles while he was here; surely just one wouldn't be missed. Her gaze lazed over to Agatha, accidentally meeting the girl's eyes before looking away. Would she wish to join her? [break][break]
That particular train of thought was cut short by the sound of an open door, echoing softly through. Pushing her personal queries aside for another timr, she greeted the gust that came out with a nod. The balding man smiled a lazy morning smile, picking up a pen to scribble something onto his room's notepad before walking away. Kiyoshi's gaze lingered on the open page, curious about what was written down. Still, she decided against checking it out now. There were far more important things going on presently, in the form of the black-haired girl. Her lack of money might just be what Kiyoshi needed.
[break][break]
This turn of events was something she had expected, which was the reason she felt puzzled when Agatha chose chocolate cake instead of a cheap fish. The latter she wouldn't have mind cooking up for free, but right now she might as well make use of her penniless plea. “Out of funds? That's truly unfortunate.” said Kiyoshi, bringing her hand to her chin in a mock guise of thinking. Truth to be told, she had already thought up a little something for Agatha to do the moment she heard the words 'empty pockets', but she didn't want to come across as too opportunistic.
[break][break]
“I do suppose there's something you could do to help. One of the dealers I usually hire for the poker tourneys unfortunately can't make it this week.” Well trusting of her ability to figure out what that 'something' was, Kiyoshi left it as an implied message. Agatha looked like the sort who was familiar with cards, and a cake must surely be worth a few hours of her weekend. But just in case it wasn't, she tacked on the following sentence “If you help me out, I'll forget about the little incident with the faucet, too.” Thinking back to it, a more genuine smile showed itself. It really was a pretty amusing sight.

you make my world spin, placebo feelings [attr="class","temppost"] [attr="class","tempicon"] It was quite obvious by the silvery spirit's posture that she had truly been plagued with sleeplessness, though Agatha thought it would be rude to comment upon such things. The spirit looked little worse for wear, though the cat found herself wondering what it was that was bothering the woman. She'd always been cheerful and polite, but there was always the possibility that such things were just a ruse. Agatha wasn't known for doing such things, but she had been around long enough to have witnessed them, especially in some of the houses where she had sought refuge. Her green eyes noticed many things, though she rarely acted upon it. She was far too selfish to extend any condolences, though in this particular situation her heart went out to the one being affected. If there was something she could do to help she would probably do it, if a little reluctantly.
The man that escaped the room didn't receive a smile from the cat, who allowed a scowl to perch upon her face as she usually did. There was once a time when someone had told her that it took more muscles to frown than to smile, only to have the cat come back with an obscenely insulting remark that was better left undocumented. Those who found problems with the cat's attitude usually received more of it. Pointing it out only made matters worse. That was probably the reason she had the willingness to put up with all of Kiyoshi's cheer; the butterfly let all of the cat's snarky remarks slide. It was almost as if she clothed herself in an armor that was sass-proof, and that's something that people needed when they were going to be experiencing the cat for days on end. For a split second Agatha wondered if she had gotten onto Kiyoshi's nerves, though she thought it better to push the thought aside.
For some odd reason, the cat spirit didn't believe that Kiyoshi thought her lack of money was unfortunate. It just meant that the cat spirit would be slightly more likely to help her out around the place, which (luckily for Agatha) wasn't all that infested with humans... save for those days of the silly poker tourneys that the keeper hosted. During such times Agatha usually reverted to her cat form and found a window to lay in, clawing any who approached her and referred to her as a 'nice kitty'. The thought caused a look of disgust to spread rapidly across the female's face, though she wasn't about to allow anyone else into her thoughts.
As fate would have it, the one thing that Agatha couldn't stand was the one thing Kiyoshi needed help with. The cat was about to spit out a big fat no, but as soon as the 'faucet incident' was brought up she didn't dare to refuse so profoundly. The cat didn't remember the incident with fondness of any kind, preferring to put it out of her mind so that she wasn't more sour than she usually was. There didn't seem to be any choice she had in the matter, so she found herself in a position where she was forced to agree... all for some stupid cake.
"If you intend to have me deal cards at your little shindig, that cake must be top notch," Agatha's tone was flat, but it was clear she was serious. She was half tempted to shift into her semi-human form and pin her ears back just to show her distaste. "On top of that, I have thoroughly explained that the faucet incident was an accident," the prideful cat was clearly haunted by the memory, wanting to get a towel just thinking of it, "so I would appreciate it if it were never spoken of again." The raven-haired female straightened her back and stood tall, proud. If her nose was tilted any higher it may have touched the ceiling.
Kiyoshi should consider herself lucky.

[attr="class","biggie"] [attr="class","textie"]Was.. was she perhaps too forceful with her proposition? Kiyoshi was no stranger to scowls from Agatha, but the one that earlier showed itself seemed to carry much more hatred and bitter dislike than usual. Sighing inside, she looked back at the cat-girl with apprehensive eyes. It was obvious to Kiyoshi that the idea wouldn't be taken kindly. More than once she had seen the cat sulking in a corner, so was what she had done an action tainted by regretful inconsideracy? She felt as if thick, biting ropes were coiling and strangling her beating heart. It was probably brought on by the tiredness she felt, amplifying her emotional vulnerability.
[break][break]
“If.. if you wish, the position of bartender could be arranged for you. It was originally my role for the night, but switching would be no trouble at all.” muttered Kiyoshi, eyes still avoiding the cat-girl's gaze. She wasn't normally the type to be this easily affected, but for some reason Agatha had struck a painful cord. A part of her was wondering, how would this show of emotion be accepted by the girl standing opposite? Would it make her seem weak? Undeserving of respect? A brittle smile showed itself as she tried to regain her composure. “I knew how much you disliked the idea, yet I still pushed you towards accepting.”
[break][break]
Steadying herself, her left hand crossed over her chest to grasp her right arm. “It was selfish, every last part of it.” Her eyes darted up to meet Agatha's before looking away. The bricks of stability were being laid, but it looks like she wasn't at a full hundred percent as of yet. Her heart was still raw and open, so to speak. The solemn introspection helped wonders, though. Sped up the process. Letting out a soft sigh, Kiyoshi's eyes loomed once more out the open window before settling back on the dark-haired girl. “Apologies, Agatha. I'm not sure what came over me.” A more comfortable smile returned, as did some of her confidence. “Could you pretend that me slightly breaking down never happened, by any chance?” asked the maid, feeling just a little red on the cheeks. “It was a pretty embarrassing display, and I'm sorry you had to see me like that."
